We ate our pork fried rice with plastic forks behind the bank where a couple of friends talked about cars; a couple of friends rode skateboards. This was one night of many. Didn't seem that important at the time. Wondering, bored and restless, was it like this in all the other towns? This is what we do. This is where we go. This is how we live. This is all we know. We got into your car and we drove out west until we couldn't tell our location from the change in the scenery and there were these buildings I had never seen before but we turned around even when the sky opened up to more, 'cause... This is what we do. This is where we go. This is how we live. This is all we know. Years later, and 200 miles away I stood on top of a hill at night and looked out at the lights of the city below and wondered if anyone out there was paying bills, or doing homework, or making calls, or sending emails, or looking back. We crowded across the floor of your room in the dorm where we spent so much of our free time freshman year. We didn't do much, but it was clear that this was one night of many, and it felt so important at the time. But we still got bored and restless till I didn't see you anymore.
